Countdown to the SHOOT OUT

Only seven days to the Red River Shoot Out!! For anyone not familiar... This is the Texas/OU football game played annually in the historic Cotton Bowl. The Cotton Bowl is considered the halfway point between the schools and is the sight of one of the greatest football rivalries ever. It goes back over 100 years. The first recorded game was played in 1900 - Oklahoma was not even a state until 1907. The game inspires a lot of friendly bets and some not-so friendly, but it always inspires a LOT of passion for Texas or Oklahoma. Historically, the Longhorns have won more games 55-37, but this decade has been dominated by the Sooners. This year will belong to Texas!

The Cotton Bowl is a Texas icon. It was the original home of the SMU Mustangs, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys. The Chiefs were originally a Texas team before moving to their current home. Tom Landry played there for the Longhorns and coached his first years of pro football in the Cotton Bowl. Sadly, it will not be the home of the Red River Rivalry much longer. The game will be moved to the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium and the lights of the Cotton Bowl will be dimmed. It will be a sad day in Dallas.

I am very excited about next weekends game, but am very disappointed to see that I am probably not going to be able to watch the game from home. ABC will be airing the game; however, I do not have ABC because we do not have a local affiliate and on my satellite, I chose the Dallas Fox Network. I never wanted to live in the city, but I must admit it does have a few drawbacks. So off to Loose Wheels (the local place to be) for me Saturday to cheer on our beloved LONGHORNS to victory!!
